Three Best (and quickest) Mindfulness Tools:

2020 and 2021 have illuminated for us the things that are and the things that are not working in our lives. Whether it’s a relationship, the way we run our house, the thoughts we have in our head about ourselves, our eating, our drinking, our use of social media, our work.

The uncomfortable truth is, they weren’t working in 2019 either. We were still medicated, overwhelmed, stressed and unhappy pre-Covid. The difference is we had a lot of options to distract us from our life. Rewind for a second to May 2018. Say you had a hard day at work or a long day at home with the kids. What would you do? Pour a glass of wine? Fill up a bowl of ice cream? Click on an online shopping site or a game?

Since we weren’t addressing the problem (why we are stressed, overwhelmed, or unhappy), we actually created more problems: excess weight, disconnection in relationships, excess inflammation from the alcohol. Ugh.

It works until it doesn’t anymorecovid, the great awakening

As they say, things work until they don’t anymore. And, with 2020 being the great awakening that it is, it’s showing us quite clearly what isn’t working.

So what to do?

The first step towards change and feeling better is to…drum roll please, wake up. BE aware that how you’re feeling doesn’t have to be how you’re feeling.

We don’t know what we don’t know.

If we grew up or are surrounded by people who have a glass of wine to “unwind” or to ” calm down”, we learn to believe that alcohol is an effective and appropriate coping tool. If we grew up with parents who yelled, we learn that yelling is an effective and appropriate parenting technique. We don’t stop to become aware of whether that way of living, drinking, or parenting are what’s actually helpful and best for you, your kids, and the life you want to be living. It’s unconscious. preprogrammed. Unmindful. Asleep at the helm.

Judgement Free Zone

It’s best if we can look at our life as a kind observer. Once we can drop the judgment of ourselves and others, we get to move into learning. We don’t know what we don’t know. I share my three favorite tools to quickly and most effectively be this kind observer of our life. To quickly and effectively bring awareness to our lives. Listen to the episode here and circle back and let me know in the comments which of the three you will try this week.
