How to Boost Your Mood & Help the World: 3 Science-Backed Strategies
The 2025 World Happiness Report is out, and it delivers a clear message: small, intentional actions can make us feel better; and make the world a kinder, more connected place.
As host of The Love Your Life Show, I love turning big research into bite-sized action. So today, I’m breaking down three simple ways you can boost your mood starting now. Want the extra bonus? When you do this you also lift up your community. Ready for more joy?
Let’s go.
1. Share Time Together (Yes, Like Family Dinners)
When was the last time you shared a meal with someone—without phones, distractions, or to-do lists buzzing in your brain?
According to the 2025 World Happiness Report, people who regularly eat with others report higher life satisfaction. In fact, communal dining is as predictive of happiness as income or employment. That’s huge.
How can you start?
⭐️ If you still have kids living at home, make meal time, device free time.
⭐️ Begin to search for ways you can eat together, or at least sit with the people in your house when they’re eating. Listen in to the podcast to hear some of my solutions for when I was a busy mom.
⭐️ If you live alone, brainstorm how you could eat meals around more people. I shared some ways I’ve done this that have really helped me boost my happiness.
2. Do Kind Things: (Volunteer Time, Money, or Energy)
Think you need to spend big or volunteer every weekend to make a difference? Think again.
The report confirms that small acts of kindness—especially to strangers—boost happiness significantly. Even better? You don’t have to be acknowledged to feel the effects.
Research shows that even anonymous giving increases well-being. Whether it’s $5 to a local cause, or rolling your neighbor’s recycling bin in from the street, your kindness matters.
What You Can Do:
⭐️ Leave kind notes in library books,
⭐️ Pick up litter during your walk,
⭐️ Donate time or money to a charity you care about—no amount is too small,
⭐️ Leave a note under your child’s pillow,
⭐️ Compliment customer service,
⭐️ Leave reviews for small businesses,
⭐️ Smile at strangers (my personal favorite!)
Happiness isn’t just felt by the receiver—it’s felt by the giver too.
3. Choose to Believe People Are Good
This one’s subtle but powerful: The report found that our perception of others affects our happiness.
The 2025 report highlights that those who believe people are generally kind and trustworthy experience higher levels of happiness.
Take the now-famous wallet study: researchers dropped wallets containing cash in public places. The result? Most wallets were returned—with the money. And the more cash inside, the more likely they were returned. It turns out, we’re a lot more kind-hearted than we think. And so, being more conscious to think of people as inherently good serves to raise your happiness set point.
What You Can Do:
⭐️ While people-watching or driving, practice intentionally assume the best about others.
⭐️ Notice our brain’s negativity bias and reframe quick judgments. I gave many examples on the Love Your Life Show. Don’t miss these powerful reframes.
As the famous Dr. Wayne Dyer says, when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change. Try it this week. What do you have to lose?

Final Thoughts: Start Small, Feel Big
You don’t need a full lifestyle makeover to feel better. Just one dinner. One kind act. One shift in mindset.
Here’s your challenge: Pick one of these three today. Not next week. Today.
✔️ Share a meal.
✔️ Do a small, kind thing.
✔️ Choose to believe people are good.
The ripple effect is real. When you feel better, you show up better—for your family, your community, and this beautiful world we all share.
You’ve got this. And I’m here, cheering you on every step of the way.
