Two Daily Habits to Boost Your Confidence in Midlife
Do you wish you had more time, energy… or confidence?
Confidence is one of those things many of us crave, especially in midlife. We want to feel sure of ourselves at work, in relationships, and even in everyday decisions. But here’s the truth: confidence isn’t something you’re born with. Confidence is something you create.
In this post (and this week’s episode of The Love Your Life Show), I’m sharing two daily habits that can boost your confidence—without waiting for life to be perfect or someone else to validate you.
Why Confidence Matters in Midlife
Confidence touches every part of our lives: our parenting, our partnerships, our careers—even our health and happiness. When we feel confident, we:
- Speak up for what we need
- Set boundaries without guilt
- Trust ourselves to make decisions
- Feel calmer and more grounded
However, when our confidence is low we will experience self-doubt, overthinking, and people-pleasing. I’ve done them all and felt them all. Which is why I can share with you the good news: you can build confidence starting today, no matter your age or how much doubt or lack of confidence you feel.
Confidence Is a Feeling You Can Create
Here’s what most of us were never taught: confidence is a feeling, and feelings come from our thoughts.
When you think, I can handle this, you feel confident. When you think, I’m not good enough, you feel doubt. Same you, same situation—different thought, different feeling.
This means confidence isn’t about fixing yourself—it’s about shifting your thoughts to support you instead of tear you down.
Confidence and Self-Doubt Are Opposites
Picture one of those old sliding scales from science class: confidence is on one end while self-doubt on the other.
The more self-doubt we allow (hello, inner critic), the less confident we feel. The less self-doubt we entertain, the more our confidence naturally rises.
This matters because most of us, ,especially women born before 2010, were raised to doubt ourselves. We were taught to seek validation, to ask, Did I do this right? or What do you think? Recognizing this pattern is the first step to breaking it.
Two Daily Habits to Boost Self-Confidence
Think of these habits like the pedals in your car:
- Accelerator = thoughts that build confidence
- Brake = thoughts that fuel self-doubt
We want to accelerate the confidence and brake the self-criticism. Here’s how:
- Pillow Pride
At night, as your head hits the pillow, pause and ask yourself: “What’s one thing I did well today?”. Think of at least one thing that, when you think of it, you can feel that warm feeling of pride in your body. Do you want to hear specific examples of what this may look or sound like? Listen in to this week’s episode of the Love Your Life Show here.
And then please get started. This simple practice retrains your brain to look for what’s good about you and is a beginning step to make thinking confident thoughts more habitual for you.
- Draw a Line in the Sand
Decide this week: You’re done being mean to yourself.
If “done forever” feels too big, choose one area: your appearance, parenting, work; and draw the line there. No negative self-talk in that area for one week. Period.
The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. People will come and go. But you? You’re with you for life. You deserve kindness from you.
Why These Habits Work
Your life is shaped by the thoughts you think—about your life and about you.
These two daily habits might seem small, but practiced consistently, they rewire the way you see yourself and boost your confidence over time.
And if you’re ready for deeper support? That’s exactly what we’re working on inside The Love Your Life School.
